Last year, people were quick to hop on the latte and strawberry makeup trends. The rise of natural makeup looks shows no signs of abating as another makeup trend has re-emerged into popularity: Japanese Igari makeup. After Korean influencer ANSOMI’s (@a.ssom on Instagram) Igari look photo trended across various platforms like TikTok and Pinterest, people on social media were quick to share their own takes.
Igari makeup is named after Japanese makeup artist Igari Shinobu. Also referred to as “futsukayoi” or hangover makeup, it draws inspiration from the flushed look one might get after consuming alcohol. Igari style makeup is especially suited for those with a low visual weight face. The look features rosy pink cheeks under the eyes, complemented by subtle base and eye makeup.
I’ve decided to recreate the Igari makeup look using heimish’s Moringa Ceramide BB Cream, CLIO’s Pro Eye Palette, The Saem’s Jelly Blusher and romand’s Glasting Melting Balm. Scroll on to find out how these K-Beauty products performed to give me that youthful flushed look!
The Japanese beauty trend for natural, fresh makeup looks is still going strong. In 2019, the highly coveted “mochi skin” trend for soft, plump and bouncy skin was all the rage. Similarly, the Igari makeup look is about looking natural with minimalist base and eye makeup that amplifies the flushed cheek look.

Light and sheer coverage
To achieve a lightweight yet hydrated base, I opted for heimish’s Moringa Ceramide BB Cream in the shade #27 Light Tan. Doubling as a skin care product, the BB cream is infused with niacinamide, ceramide NP and adenosine to brighten, hydrate and firm skin. It comes in a slender, pump bottle for easy and controlled product dispensing. All you need is a small amount to cover the whole face!
I fell in love with this product as it gave my skin a flawless and non-cakey finish without leaving my skin dry. On top of that, I appreciate the brand’s diverse shade range. I often struggle to find Korean brands that cater to darker skin tones but heimish’s BB cream offers an inclusive color selection that caters to my brown skin!
Soft and neutral eyes
To nail the subdued eye look for Igari makeup, choose between a soft pink or muted brown tone eye shadow with a touch of shimmer. I went with CLIO’s Pro Eye Palette in #11 Walking On The Cozy Alley, as it features ten nude brown shades in matte and glitter finishes that work great for creating a subtle everyday look. It comes with a dual-ended brush, but I prefer using my fingers to blend the eye shadows for a more toned-down finish.
For my base, I used the shade Peaceful Weekend (a milky brown) for a balanced look, and then the shade Softness (a pinkish beige) on the inner corner of my eyes for soft-hard color contrast. For a livelier touch, I finished the look with glitter shadow on the center of my lids.

Rosy flushed cheeks
Skip the bronzer and contour, as the Igari makeup look is all about the blush! Boasting a highly pigmented and long-lasting formula, The Saem’s Jelly Blusher (#PK02 Scarlet Pink) melts seamlessly into skin, leaving a watercolor-like vibrancy on the cheeks.
Given that I have brown skin and warm undertones, I find that reddish-pink shades work best to give my cheeks a bright yet natural flushed look. Using a fluffy brush, I applied the blush just below my eyes and on top of the apple of my cheeks. Then, I blended it across the bridge of my nose to seal the youthful look. Application was a breeze, thanks to the Jelly Blusher’s buildable and blendable formula.
Glossy Lip
Pull the whole look together with a lip gloss or tinted lip balm in a color that best matches your lips’ natural color. romand’s Glasting Melting Balm in the shade #04 Hippie Berry nourishes lips while leaving a vibrant burst of color. It’s enriched with plant-based ingredients like rosehip, argan and evening primrose oils that create a moisture-sealing barrier over the lips to prevent dryness.
I was a bit skeptical about using a cool-toned shade on my lips in fear that the color would make my skin look washed out. I tend to veer away from light pink shades and instead, prefer rosy, coral and muted red colors for my everyday makeup looks. To my surprise and delight, the Glasting Melting Balm neutralized the color of my pigmented lips. Besides having a glossy and dewy finish, the tinted lip balm also carried a sweet berry scent that sealed the deal for me!

Final Verdict
Out of the four K-Beauty products that I used to create the Igari makeup look, my top pick would have to be romand’s Glasting Melting Balm. It ticked all the right boxes with its classy packaging, rich color payoff, lip care and fruity scent!
Earning second place is The Saem’s Jelly Blusher. I love how lightweight and comfortable the blush sat on my skin. Generally speaking, I prefer powder over cream blush because my face tends to get oily by midday, and a powder blush helps absorb excess sebum. Thankfully, the Jelly Blusher hits the sweet spot between a matte and dewy finish, which saved me the worries of looking like a glazed donut!
Also deserving of praise is CLIO’s Pro Eye Palette for its impeccable and long-lasting results. The soft and creamy formula adhered smoothly to my eyelids without fallout!
As for heimish’s Moringa Ceramide BB Cream, it evened out my skin tone and left my skin feeling moist all day long. However, the BB cream only offers light to medium coverage, so if you have stubborn blemishes and acne spots like I do, you might need to use a concealer for extra targeted coverage.
